Family care (FC) is a Medicaid program administered
by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services
(DADS). FC provides NON – TECHNICAL ATTENDANT SERVICES
to Medicaid eligible consumers who reside at home.
Under the Family Care Program, the attendant or provider
could be a family member, a friend or a neighbor.
Participation in the FC program does not require
a doctor’s order.
However, like in Primary
Home Care a consumer must:
- Have a Functional Limitation
- Need assistance with activities of daily living ADL
Attendants also known as providers help consumers
with:
- Personal Care
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Shaving / Oral care
- Skin / Hair care
- Toileting
- Housekeeping
- Meal Preparation
- Laundry
- Shopping
- Escort
- Transfer
- Walking
- Assistance with self – administered medications
